Entitled neighbor brings their children to swim in homeowner's pool without their consent, then shames the homeowner for telling them to get off their property: ‘Ok. Take them to the community pool’

The summer heat makes us do questionable things… But would you ever jump into some stranger's pool without asking them first? Probably not, and that's because you are not a crazily entitled person who thinks the world exists to serve them and them only.

I live in NYC, so a private pool is alien to me. The closest I get to a cold dip in the pool is a cold shower in the early morning when my building's hot water hasn't kicked in yet. However, I feel like I'd know how to act in the case that I lived in a cute cul-de-sac with a reputation for in-ground pools. The protocol? Make friends with the neighbors and watch everything fall into place.

The neighbors in this next story couldn't bother befriending the new homeowner who purchased an elderly woman's home. It's important to note that this elderly woman allowed the neighbors in this story, along with their children, to swim in her pool whenever they wanted. It is equally important to note that this new homeowner never gave the neighbors the green light to swim in their pool. Scroll below to read the whole story.

  • If I thought I could get away with sneaking into someone's pool without them knowing, I probably still wouldn't do it. At the end of the day, we must go about the world with our moral principles worn on our sleeves. In this neighbor's case, it seems like she might not have much to show. Or, that's just the entitled smokescreen that's clouding her judgment. If her kids want to swim so bad, then she should take the homeowner's advice and go to the community pool. It's the principle of her actions that matters.

  • remberzz I had a small pool many years ago in neighborhood where about 30% of the homes had pools. My (very nice) neighbors happily let half a dozen other families come into their yard and use the pool whenever they wanted to.

  • I did not. I got a lot of hints that I, too, should be a 'good neighbor' and allow the same. I got one dr ken harangue about how selfish I was. Didn't care. My pool. My privacy. My solitude. Also my security against damage, injuries, etc.
